Gilson Daub Announces Promotion of Matt Malen To Partner
Since joining Gilson Daub one year ago, Malen has more than doubled the Firm’s municipal client base and expanded its practice areas to include entertainment industry representation
San Clemente, Calif. – August 5, 2024 – Today, Gilson Daub, a leading workers’ compensation defense, subrogation, and civil litigation law firm, announces the promotion of Matt Malen to Partner. Malen, based in Ventura, Calif., oversees the Los Angeles and Central California teams alongside Partner Jesse Salazar.
Since joining Gilson Daub in July 2023, Malen opened the Firm’s first Ventura office and has played an integral role in establishing its Southern California entertainment industry practice – onboarding some of the industry’s biggest names. He also has more than doubled the Firm’s municipal client base, bringing on multiple new clients such as the City of Simi Valley and the City of Oxnard.

Before joining Gilson Daub, Malen was a shareholder at Kegel, Tobin, and Truce, representing insured employers and their carriers in all aspects of workers’ compensation defense. He has handled serious and willful misconduct claims, California Labor Code Section 132a defense, and civil subrogation. Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2004. He received his law degree from Western State University College of Law in 2007 and was admitted to the California State Bar later that year.
